Fri Oct 18 - Seaweed Speakeasy

The Humboldt Bay Social Club, Samoa

The Seaweed Speakeasy now an unmissable California Seaweed festival tradition, networking event kicks off at The Humboldt Bay Social Club is located on the rugged Samoa Peninsula, tucked in the dunes between the Pacific and Humboldt Bay. We will be in The Hangar, a former WWII airplane Hangar, which opens onto a patio with fire pits under the night sky. What a spot to enjoy seaweed-rich bites and drinks and make connections with seaweed enthusiasts from all sectors!

Just steps from the Bay, this spot is perfect for our pre-event tours of wild seaweed populations and local aquaculture businesses before the party starts.

Sat Oct 19 - California Seaweed Festival

The Wharfinger Building, Eureka

The California Seaweed Festival main event on Saturday will be right on the Eureka waterfront at the Wharfinger Building and Marina! Stunning Bay views will be the backdrop for panel discussions, presentations, our vendor marketplace, exhibits, workshops and activities around all things seaweed. Of course, there will be food, drinks, music, mermaids and magical creatures! In the marina, we’ll have tours of the biodiversity on the floats and pilings, tours of the Research Vessel Coral Sea and The Madaket taking festival goers on tours of aquaculture sites and local history in Humboldt Bay.

Sun Oct 20 - Workshop & Tour

Cal Poly Humboldt’s Telonicher Marine Lab, Trinidad

The dramatic cliffs of Trinidad are home base for the seaweed researchers and the first seaweed farm to go into the water in Humboldt Bay. On Sunday, Cal Poly Humboldt’s Marine Lab will host a Kelp Hatchery Workshop where participants will get hand-on experience of every step in the process.

Of course, we’ll also have a fabulous seaweed forward dining experience in view of the glorious kelps and cliffs coastline.

They are located in the small coastal town of Trinidad, CA about 14 miles north of the Cal Poly Humboldt, 20 miles south of Redwood National Park, and 285 miles north of San Francisco.

OUR STORY

The California Seaweed Festival arose from decades of studying seaweeds, admiring their beauty and learning myriad ways that seaweeds make life better. We want to share the beauty and diversity of seaweeds on our coasts.
